Golden Retriever Pups Growing Up (From 1 day to 7 weeks)

This is a tribute to Lucky and her 8 puppies. R.I.P the other 4 pups who died during birth.

My neighbours Golden Retriever, Lucky, had 12 puppies on June 1st 2009. 4 of the puppies died, leaving her with 8 of them. There were 3 males and 5 females. All of which we named. I took care of the puppies a lot of the time. I would often bring them over to my yard and play with them.

I walked Lucky all of the time also, even before she was pregnant. I cared for them and helped socialize them. We named them Daisy, Delilah, Flower, Nipper, Pink, Enrique, Tanner, and Bulldozer (Now known as Oliver). I bathed them, fed them, played with them, and did just as much as i could for them. I also traiend 2 of them to sit on command when they were 7 weeks old only.

I started leash training them also. I even watched them being born. Well the first one atleast. On June 1st, i was just visiting Lucky and seeing how she was. She layed down and started with contractions. Me and my friend were amazed. We never seen it happen before. Shortly after, she started having the first puppy. I think we were more excited than any body was. I was pretty much the most interested person out there.

I had my eyes set on one little puppy. A dark golden male puppy who i named Tanner. I was very determined to keep this puppy. But as they matured, i realized he wasn’t having the best personality. He was shy and a little slower than the others. He was one of the smallest puppies. One of the biggest puppies, Bulldozer, was the puppy i realized i liked. He was outgoing and loving already. I Knew i wanted him to be mine, but at the last minute, i got a no from my dad. A friendly young couple came and adopted Oliver. I am very grateful for them being the ones to adopt him. I have kept in touch with them since they adopted him. The puppies are now 8 months old. I have recieved pictures of Oliver also. I think i have kept in more touch with the puppies owners than the owner of Lucky has.

Sadly, a couple months ago in December, my neighbours had to give away Lucky. Lucky was a farm dog and used to run a lot of land, and now she is always cooped up in a backyard because she is an outdoors dog. She now lives on their cousins farm, and has a lot more room to run! I will miss her but she is in a better place now.

But, shortly after my birthday in October, i got a Border Collie puppy, who i named Shyloh.
